Krista was born in Zundert, a hundred metres from Vincent van Gogh’s birthplace. After studying at the St. Joost Academy of Art in Breda, she moved to Baarn. Now, twenty years later, she is returning to Zundert.
Her family lives nearby. Her grandmother will be her neighbour, and her parents and sister live a few streets away.
She intends to explore whose shoulders she stands on – which (family) tradition she is continuing.
She places her own work alongside that of Van Gogh, for example by studying how he painted his mother and sister in Memories of the Garden in Etten and the work Memories of Brabant.

Next to the sexton’s house of the Protestant church in Zundert, where Vincent van Gogh’s father was a minister, a modern guest atelier has been built.
Every month, the atelier and the sexton’s house are made available to an artist, from the Netherlands or abroad, who follows in Van Gogh’s footsteps and creates work inspired by this location. Krista will be painting here in September 2026.
